Thanks to all exhibitors and visitors for making Elmia Wood 2009 a big success!

It´s over for this time – Elmia Wood 2009 will be remembered as the fair that managed the recession. When other trade fairs had to cancel Elmia Wood showed it´s strength and status and basically managed to be on the same level as last fair 2005.

“What are you doing now” are the most frequently asked question after the fair. The answer is easy; This week we have already started with the invitation to SkogsElmia 2011 which will be send out the nearest week. Of course we also must evaluate this year´s Elmia Wood, which will take a few weeks.

SkogsElmia will take place 26-28 of May 2011, at the same area as this year´s Elmia Wood.

The first day of Elmia Wood is over and we can establish a good torrent of visitors, a little bit cold, but mainly dry weather. Many exhibitors have launched news – both big and small. From now on our web-editors will report from the fair. On three languages we keep press, visitors and exhibitors updated on what is going on!

Elmia Wood trade fair well-known in Spain

Elmia Wood is a well-known trade fair among forest companies in Spain. The trade fair has a strong reputation and the interest is very big among Spanish visitors. I have noticed that the big topic this year is bioenergy. A lot of people ask me: How many exhibitor and what kinds of exhibitor, related to bioenergy, are coming to this year´s trade fair.
Spanish visitor have big expectations of Elmia Wood 2009, especially in biomass machines and cutting forest machines. Because of the economic crisis the Spanish visitor are trying to find new business opportunities and some ideas to reduce the costs of the forest machines.
It´s almost 2000 kilometer between Spain and Sweden and that is why most of the Spanish fair visitors travel by plane to Copenhagen, Gothenburg or Stockholm and from there by bus or by rented car. For Spanier who want to know the state of the art in forest technology, Elmia Wood is the place to be.

We still receive new applications

Monday the 25th of May is the official start for moving in to Elmia Wood 09, but some companies are already, since a couple of weeks, in full progress to build their stands. Machinery of various kinds have rolled into the area for more than two weeks now, so now it starts to look like Elmia Wood ”for real”. We still receive new applications as well. As late as last Friday we sent out seven new stand proposals and already there are further ones in the queue. Today we have 471 companies registered and it seems to be more.

It runs so chips is whirling

Soon you don´t longer dare to walk around on the trade fair area. The people that are working with delivering chips to the stands are in a hurry, so it is best to not get in their way. That they are in a hurry are not very surprising, the fair opens within two weeks. Until then, they have to deliver 4000 cubic metre chips, or 40 trailers, to the stands and paths on the trade fair area.

Bioenergy – Hot in South America

It´s a big interest in bioenergy in South America and the people there are expected to get information and see what will happen in the bioenergy-field at this year´s Elmia Wood. The major machine manufacturers in South America arrange bus trips for employees and suppliers. The smaller companies do not have the same opportunity and therefore I have arranged a trip, taking 20 people. During Elmia Wood 2005 visited near 400 South Americans the exhibition. The main reason why South Americans are going to Elmia Wood is to get inspiration and discover the latest in forest technology. One of my contact at Komatsu Forest in Brazil, told me this when he explained why he goes to Elmia Wood.

On the trade fair area tent are raising

There is talk of SPRING. We who work with Elmia Wood have several signs that spring is here, especially when the fair is approaching. Flagpoles are an example that was mentioned the other day.

The latest is that we have started to raise tents in the woods at the trade fair area. The two largest in the entire trade fair was built this weekend. Yes, “built in” – they are 600 and 700 square meter big, unfamiliar to usual campers.

A “flagpole-forest”!

Now it becomes increasingly clear that something is happening in the woods in Bratteborg, where this year Elmia Wood takes place in a month. A clear sign is that we have started to assemble the first of the approximately 400 flagpoles that will appear in the area during the fair.
We have started with our own 82 poles that will have over 60 national flags + miscellaneous Elmia flags. A “flagpole-forest” is also a forest.

The journalists are preparing

Journalists from all corners of the world are now accrediting for the show and preparing their travels to Sweden. I look forward to meeting them in the press centre at the fair. Thanks to their reports after the show, a lot of people can follow the cutting-edge development in forest technology. By offering a well equipped press centre with information from the exhibitors, computers, Internet and refreshments, the journalists have somewhere to go to write down their latest interviews, meet colleagues and prepare for the next tour on the fairground.

The craftsmen are on site!

The electricians and the joiners are on site, and from now on there will always be staff on site during daytime. This is another sign that the Elmia Wood show is coming closer. Fences are to be built, bridges checked, the press centre needs a face lift and signs must be put up to guide visitors. After that we start with the stands.
